COMMUNITY SUPPORT
We host a variety of support sessions that allow parent/carers and older patients to both receive and give emotional support on heart and lung journeys. At the start of 2026, we kicked off our Your Voice Matters campaign, amplifying voices of our community making sure you are always at the center of what we do. These sessions not only act as incredible emotional support, but can also help us implement changes both in and out of hospital to improve our practices.
We currently host 3 types of support sessions for our community:
This is led by a clinic member of staff from our Trust, such as a cardiac or respiratory Clinical Nurse Specialists, where staff prompt discussion around a specific condition. These groups allow people to ask for advice, get updated knowledge or resources about conditions, and even impact current practices and research.
These easily accessible sessions allow parent/carers and older patients to speak openly about their journeys. Sessions are led by our community, allowing you to ask and give advice and support as you wish. Each session is attended by a Designated Safeguarding Lead from our charity to oversee the flow of the session, and any recommendations being made. Families are given special kits with branded mugs, tea, coffee and biscuits to enjoy these sessions from the comfort of their own home. Here you can reflect on the hardships of a heart and/or lung journey, ask for advice, give insights from lived experiences, or simply sit back and listen. We also signpost to useful organisations for a variety of issues that may arise, as well as sharing essential self-care practices.
These are dependent on our Community Champions, volunteers who host events and socials to support families in their local area. This type of sessions are incredibly vital for our members, as it allows you to build connections with people from this community you may not even know lived right down the street! Here you can openly discuss your journey, reflect on hardships, ask for advice, give insights from lived experiences, or simply sit back and listen. These can include questions around local support due to the nature of these groups. You can also receive essential Brompton Fountain literature and resources for further support.
