COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Medical Equipment Loan Programme

The Brompton Fountain takes pride in our Medical Equipment Loan Programme (MELP), which allows us to support patients and families by funding essential medical equipment and resources outside the NHS remit. This programme allows patients and their families to enter the community with confidence, knowing they have the essential items needed to keep themselves safe.

We work closely with the paediatric and adult teams across our network of partnering hospitals to provide families with a wide range of essential items and services. This offer is given on a clinical referral basis and comes from the patient’s Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). We have provided families with larger items such as AEDs, INRs and SATs monitors, as well as smaller items like blood pressure machines, syringes, and physio balls.

“As a nurse, I have seen first-hand how the Brompton Fountain  funding for AEDs and Kardia remote monitors directly impacts lives. These allow faster emergency response, earlier detection of heart issues and gives patients and families confidence and peace of mind.”

This loan programme ensures all loanable, non single-use items (such as AEDs and Baby Scales) are thoroughly cleaned and checked by clinical engineering prior to further distribution, assuring our patients that they are receiving equipment of a high standard. Of course some items are single use, like INRs, and we are more than happy to fund these through MELP!

“The charity’s funding for AEDs has made a real, tangible difference in patient safety, meaning lifesaving care can begin immediately, often before medical help arrives. This support truly extends care beyond our hospital walls.”

This service is available to anyone aged 0-25 who is under the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation Trust, including care from Royal Brompton Hospital, Harefield Hospital, and Evelina London Children’s Hospital. It is paramount for us to empower our families to live life with confidence, knowing that they are supported wherever they may be.

If you are interested in receiving a piece of fully funded medical equipment, please do contact your CNS to make a referral to harrietc@thebromptonfountain.org.uk.
