We are raising £100000 to fund medical equipment and vital resources at Royal Brompton Hospital.
Royal Brompton treats some of the most seriously ill children in the country. Many of our patients have life-limiting conditions and will require frequent, often lengthy admissions in hospital for surgery and on-going treatment for the rest of their lives.
Our appeal will enable us to fund lifesaving medical equipment and specialist resources to improve care for young patients and to help aid their recovery and promote wellbeing.
With money raised from the appeal we aim to purchase five new state of the art heart monitors for the children’s ward at Royal Brompton Hospital. These touch screen machines use the latest technology and will provide tailored monitoring for each child. They are also wireless which means that staff can monitor patients remotely. Each monitor will cost £6000.
We will also be funding small pieces of medical equipment and resources that will benefit 1000s of patients. Here are just some of ways the appeal will help.
The funding of portable oxygen (SATs) monitors which will allow patients to be safely monitored whilst away from the ward. They will also be used by the nurses when visiting patients in the community.
To make things a little easier for our young patients we will provide additional INR machines. They test blood with just a simple finger prick and can also be used at home so parents do not have to continually bring them into hospital for tests
We will be able to fund more fibre optic lights. This kind of sensory equipment makes a huge difference to children of all ages, encouraging them to touch, play and explore and can also be a calming relaxation aid whilst in hospital.
Fund a subscription to the MedicAlert service for 12 months for patients up to the age of 25. This is a piece of medical ID that contains vital information to know in case of an emergency, providing parents and patients with peace of mind.
Working in conjunction with the Brompton Centre for Fetal Cardiology we will fund further pre-natal clinics for parents whose child has received a diagnosis of a complex congenital heart condition.
Providing specialist resources and funding projects for young patients during their admission to promote wellbeing and working with the hospital play services team to support children with additional needs such as autism understand what is happening to to ensure a calm surrounding.
