Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust is the largest specialist heart and lung centre in the UK and among the largest in Europe. The trust works from two sites, Royal Brompton Hospital in Chelsea, West London and Harefield Hospital near Uxbridge. Consultants from the trust also hold clinics in local hospitals throughout the South of England.

Some families will experience a stay in Royal Brompton Hospital for surgery or an intensive course of intravenous antibiotic and physiotherapy but many others will receive their treatment at their local hospital. The Brompton Fountain aims to support all families, whether their treatment is centred at the Trust main sites or closer to home. The hospital hosts a large canteen on Level 1, serving hot and cold meals and snacks as well as a coffee shop on Level 2, both of which are very reasonably priced. There is now a WH Smith store located near the entrance way of Royal Brompton, selling magazines, confectionary and cold drinks.
