28/05/10 Thank you and Future Plans

The Brompton Fountain was relaunched on May 20th 2010. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended the special event, to everyone who has been in touch to offer help and support and to all those who have been putting huge efforts in to fundraising for the charity.

After many meetings and preparations the work on the parents accommodation at the hospital is now well underway and the first room is fully completed. We are really excited about this project and hope that it will benefit many families now and in the future, enabling parents to rest in a clean, calm and relaxing environment while caring for their child at the Royal Brompton.

We also have the foundations in place for many new support projects including a pre-natal group, we are looking forward to announcing further developments in these areas shortly.

23/12/09 An Important Message for all Brompton Families

The Brompton Fountain is currently being redeveloped and expanded with new management.

We are both parents of children with complex and life-long medical conditions. We are passionate and determined to make the charity work and to support as many people as we can.

We would like to re-launch the charity in the Spring of 2010 and will be running focus groups and short questionnaires in January to help us to research the wants and needs of the people we are trying to help. We would like to speak to as many expecting parents, parents/guardians, grandparents, older siblings or any other family member that has been affected by a child being treated at the Brompton Hospital as possible. If you would like to find out more or to be involved in this please contact us, we would love to hear from you!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

For 2010 we will be doing this on December 23rd.

If you would like to help us raise money for this and other activities please visit the following Justgiving page set up by one of our Team Members and give anything that you can.

6/7/08 Beating the weather for a family fun day at Battersea Zoo

We had been planning our family fun day for several weeks but one thing we couldn't be assured of was the weather. After two weeks of sunshine the heavens opened. With hindsight, perhaps we tempted fate by clashing with the men's final at Wimbledon! Perhaps put off by the weather, several families decided not to come but those that braved the British Summer were rewarded by a great day out. We had a good old wander round the zoo where the donkeys, monkeys, sheep, pigs, hares and barn owls were among the favourite animals seen. The mouse house and cafe provided welcome shelter from the showers. We were lucky enough to find an empty barn full of hay bales to crowd into for lunch. After lunch we had stories in the barn and even managed to use our imaginations with the help of some rythmn tapping and actions to go on a bear hunt. Perhaps spurred on by our chants of 'what a beautiful day' the sun peeped out through the rain clouds but we were not quite convinced enough to play our planned parachute and ball games. Instead, in true wet day style,  the children were given Battersea Zoo colouring books, activity books, pencils and crayons to amuse themselves with while the adults chatted. The rain did then stop long enough for a treasure hunt and a play in the adventure playground. The children made friends with each other and adults shared got to know others with similar conditions and, in one case, swapped addresses with another family who live in the same town. Everyone went home saying they'd had a great time. Of course, the showers that fell on us also fell down the road at Wimbledon so after a day of fun we were still able to watch the best of the final when we got home. Have a look at our new gallery for more photos of our day.

Battersea Zoo is at a walkable distance from The Brompton and would provide a welcome break from the ward. Children with disabilties and medical conditions are half price with one free adult. You do need to bring proof, a hospital letter would do.

Current ideas for the 2009 Family Fun Day include a day in Brighton, with a trip to the sealife centre, picnic on the beach and some time on the pier. Watch this space!

23/6/08 The Brompton Fountain is set to refurbish the parent's accomodation on level 6 of The Brompton Hospital

The level 6 parent's accomodation at The Brompton Hospital is in desperate need of refurbishment. The Brompton Fountain have now secured the funds to do this work as part of our work to provide a pleasant and supportive environment for families whilst in hospital. Last week, Sarah toured the exising accomodation with the hospital Family Liason Officer and Head of Estates. A list was compiled outlining what needs to be done for each room. We plan to decorate, lay new floors, replace curtains and replace old and worn furniture. We hope to see work commence in the next few months.
