We are hoping to formally launch this by the end of the year and aim to run workshops and outings for members to meet new friends who may have been through similar experiences to themselves.

If you were unable to make it along to the group and would like to express your views and help us to ensure the group is a success we have produced a questionnaire for you to fill in. You can download this HERE.

6/7/08 Beating the weather for a family funday at Battersea Zoo

We had been planning our family fun day for several weeks but one thing we couldn't be assured of was the weather. After two weeks of sunshine the heavens opened. With hindsight, perhaps we tempted fate by clashing with the men's final at Wimbledon! Perhaps put off by the weather, several families decided not to come but those that braved the British Summer were rewarded by a great day out. We had a good old wander round the zoo where the donkeys, monkeys, sheep, pigs, hares and barn owls were among the favourite animals seen. The mouse house and cafe provided welcome shelter from the showers. We were lucky enough to find an empty barn full of hay bales to crowd into for lunch. After lunch we had stories in the barn and even managed to use our imaginations with the help of some rhythm tapping and actions to go on a bear hunt. Perhaps spurred on by our chants of 'what a beautiful day' the sun peeped out through the rain clouds but we were not quite convinced enough to play our planned parachute and ball games. Instead, in true wet day style, the children were given Battersea Zoo colouring books, activity books, pencils and crayons to amuse themselves with while the adults chatted. The rain did then stop long enough for a treasure hunt and a play in the adventure playground. The children made friends with each other and adults shared got to know others with similar conditions and, in one case, swapped addresses with another family who live in the same town. Everyone went home saying they'd had a great time. Of course, the showers that fell on us also fell down the road at Wimbledon so after a day of fun we were still able to watch the best of the final when we got home. Have a look at our new gallery for more photos of our day.

Battersea Zoo is at a walkable distance from The Brompton and would provide a welcome break from the ward. Children with disabilities and medical conditions are half price with one free adult. You do need to bring proof, a hospital letter would do.

Current ideas for the 2009 Family Fun Day include a day in Brighton, with a trip to the Sealife Centre, picnic on the beach and some time on the pier. Watch this space!

23/6/08-The Brompton Fountain is set to refurbish the parent's accommodation on level 6 of The Brompton Hospital

The level 6 parent's accommodation at The Brompton Hospitals is in desperate need of refurbishment. The Brompton Fountain have now secured the funds to do this work as part of our work to provide a pleasant and supportive environment for families whilst in hospital. Last week, Sarah toured the existing accommodation with the hospital Family Liaison Officer and Head of Estates. A list was compiled outlining what needs to be done for each room. We plan to decorate, lay new floors, replace curtains and replace old and worn furniture. We hope to see work commence in the next few months.
